Automotive Glass: Types and Uses

Cars, trucks and similar automobiles use two main types of glasses for windshields and side mirrors. These are referred to as Automotive Glass. These two types are namely tempered and laminated safety glass. Tempered glass in vehicles is generally used in rear and side glasses. Tempered glass is very strong in comparison to normal glasses in terms of strength. The reason being is that it is created by heating on very high temperatures. This makes the glass very strong and is able to withstand force up to a certain extent. The good thing about laminated glass is that it breaks up into little pebble shaped pieces instead of the edgy pieces that normal glass makes.Laminated Glass is another type of Automotive Glass which is made in a similar way as the tempered glass but the difference being is that it is made up of two pieces of glass and is covered with a layer of vinyl. Hence the name laminated glass. The vinyl and the glass are pressed together in an oven called the autoclave. The reason for the vinyl cover is that suppose if the glass breaks, there are less chances that it will fall on the person. Instead, the broken debris will hang on the vinyl itself. This is the reason this glass is called safety glass. There are many incidences where one needs to change Automotive Glasses in vehicles. There can be a tragic accident involving the glass to break. Not only accidents, a small pebble can make a little crack in the windshield and then this crack or better called as vein can develop due the vibration of the car as time passes. Driving under such conditions can pose a potential damage to the glass or to the car itself. Driving with a damaged windshield is an offence at some places.Protective measures for your Automotive Glass:Fixing a windshield can be the least bothersome activity if you follow the proper instructions or get the specialists.
